UPDATE ON ORIGINAL STORY:

"An out of control NASA satellite has a small chance to crash land this week in the small country town of Dwellingup, Western Australia."

Early last week, NASA director Keith Stone addressed the press in Washington with composure, urging calm. But as of this weekend, the attitude from NASA has become far more alarming. Speaking to CNN, Stone was unable to counter critics who speculated that he had no definite idea of the satellite's trajectory. Many critics have fears of widespread destruction in the Dwellingup area.

"We are aware of the potential for damage to buildings and the danger to lives, we're doing everything we can to have more specific information available to you in the coming days."

Although NASA appears to be hesitant to make any statements likely to elicit panic, US President Donald Trump has offered a solution. On 3am Sunday morning, Trump tweeted: "Just watched CNN's interview with Stone. No good for the people of Dwellingup! Lets shoot this mother down!"

This offer has elicited mixed reactions from a number of political factions. From their headquarters in Canada, Australian Greens Senator Richard Di Natale said: "This is a kneejerk and impulsive reaction from President Trump. I'm certain that the last thing the residents of Dwellingup want are missiles exploding over their heads and shrapnel raining down."

Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea and supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un has scoffed at Trump's offer. The DPRK issued a statement on the matter from Pyongyang: "The bumbling dotard is offering to use imperialist rockets against one of their sycophant allies? They are impotent, and cannot intercept anything. Praise be to dear leader."

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball has since acknowledged President Trump's offer, and is considering a public opinion poll on the matter. "We're currently looking at many possible options...we're probably going to conduct another postal vote on whether or not to shoot this thing down. It'll be a nation wide survey."

When asked about the appropriateness of all of Australia voting on the welfare of Dwellingup's residents, Turnball appeared nonchalant. "Everyone gets an opinion on what happens to Dwellingup. You have to respect everyone's opinion no matter what it is."
