The automotive industry is a wide range of companies and organizations involved in the design, development, manufacturing, marketing and selling of motor vehicles. By revenue it is one of the world’s most important economic sectors and it does not include industries dedicated to the maintenance of automobiles following delivery to the end-user, such as automobile repair shops and motor fuel filling stations. Lately, the competitors within this industry have to prepare for the upcoming changes due to new technology such as electric cars. The Key figures within the industry are employment, production, registrations, vehicles in use, trade, environment, innovation and taxation. As such an important economic sector, it provides many jobs throughout the world. Focusing on the european market, more than 12.5 million Europeans now work directly, indirectly in the automotive, in automobile use, transport or within the construction sector, representing 5.7 of total EU employment. The EU now is placed second worldwide as producer of motor vehicles. Leading producer is Greater China with strong 30 share of production. In 2016 the EU had 23 share of production. Placing North America third with 19 and Japan fourth with 14 share of production. The production of passenger cars increased by 2.7 in 2016, totalling 16.5 million units. Not only does our industry make a significant contribution to powering economic growth and creating jobs, it also spurs innovation and provides mobility for millions of Europeans. Also, registration represents a key figure within this industry and Europe is placing only third on the worldwide ranking of sold vehicles. But, even though Asia (46.7) and America (26.9) are placing first and second, Europe is not really as bad as it might have looked like.
As you can see in the pie chart below, with 21.3 Europe does not have a quite small market share.

On international bases, the european automobile industry is also exporting many vehicles to others parts in the world. In 2016 the EU exported more than 6.3 million vehicles, from which 33.1 were transported to Asia and Oceania, 32.7 to North America and 20.7 to the EFTA and Eastern Europe.
