The Spanish government has notified to the population that in one-year period all non-electric vehicles will not be permitted to use.
Due to the data collected by the scientific community during the past ten years, that shown the problem of contamination will not be reversable if the current situation does not change in the short-term period, the president communicated that the government approved a new law which states the cessation of use of gasoline and diesel vehicles in all the country.
The president Pedro Sánchez said that the contamination has raised in the last two years by a 60 because of the amount of exhaust fumes released to the atmosphere and that if we do not stop that the consequences will be devastating.
This new law will come into force by the beginning of the new year. The fine for using fuel cars from 2021 can exceed 80,000 euros. This measure will be bringing several disruptions as people will need to spend a lot of money, economic losses for all the combustion vehicles manufacturers, among other factors. To fight against these, the government have developed some strategies to prevent the market collapse, as give some compensation for people that exchanges the non-compliant vehicles or for buying new ones.
Despite the speech given by the president of the government, in which he has asked the population to make a sacrifice for a better and cleaner future, they have not received the measure very well, causing riots and protests. To these complaints, Pedro Sánchez has called to order demanding responsibility from the citizens.
